Established in 2009, it now offers one of the leading European PhD programs in Economics. The Zurich GSE is highly selective and attracts both Swiss and international students with excellent qualifications and promise for successful independent research. Between 12 and 15 students are admitted to the program every year.

At ETH Zurich, doctorates are not organised within an overall doctoral study programme in the way that students may be familiar with from other universities. Each doctoral student is free to select and assemble the components of their doctoral studies for him or herself.

ETH domain is dominated by science and engineering, and the graduate programs reflect that. PhD students are employees of a specific Chair (supervisor). A few programs sit outside of this, for example, SFI at EPFL. But in general, the system is as in engineering and science.
The aim of this highly interdisciplinary PhD program of systems biological researchers of the University of Zurich and ETH in Zurich and Basel is to train students from various disciplines and departments including Computer Science and (Bio)Informatics, Biological Sciences, and Engineering to become future leaders in Systems Biology.

We do have a small number of studios, which we rent out to new arriving international doctoral students of ETH and UZH. The application form has to be submitted by your dissertation supervisor along with a confirmation of your doctoral position.
The Life Science Zurich Graduate School consists of sixteen highly competitive Ph.D. programs, run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.
